A Warm Irish Welcome

Apr 28, 2017   //   by bcp   //   News  //  No Comments

Sharon Dennis and Doris Au MacDonald — The Braeded Chord — took a huge leap of faith when they accepted an invitation to play a series of gigs in Ireland in March and April.
They didn’t really know what awaited them, nor did they know me, a percussionist and music promoter working for Youth With A Mission at a missionary base called An Cuan in the tiny village of Rostrevor in Northern Ireland, the area of Ireland still part of the United Kingdom.
They ended up playing nine gigs in 10 days, some planned, and some that came up as a result of their ability to charm with their music and their open, friendly demeanors.
They opened by attending the weekly Songs and Stories event at the Rostrevor Inn, where the host spontaneously invited them to play a couple of tunes. They wowed the crowd in the tiny but packed room, and from then on they were known and appreciated by the folks in the music-oriented village.
They put on a worship clinic on Saturday and followed with a free concert with two prominent local musicians, Fra Sands and Maria Nickolay, a concert that raised the equivalent of several hundred US dollars for the refugees An Cuan works with in Lebanon and France.
They played during and after the service at the local Church of Ireland and led morning worship for An Cuan staff and trainees the next day and again that evening at the open-to-the-public Harbour Service.
The next night they were invited to lead worship for a Lenten service at a nearby hotel, then went right to the local pub to play in a session of Irish folk songs and pop hits with local musicians.
Then it was back to the Songs and Stories for two more songs the next night.
For their finale they headlined the monthly An Cuan Open Mic Night.
They added some Irish classics to their already eclectic and wide-ranging set list, which kept their listeners engaged during each of their performances. At the free concert, one woman kept whispering to her husband that she was going to leave after the next song, but she kept staying!
Their worship sessions were spirit-driven, and actually so were their secular performances.
Bottom line was that they did what musicians are called to do: connect with and move their audience. They did it with grace and ease and made many friends in a small and distant Irish village.
Their return is eagerly awaited!

Mountain Thyme in Northern Ireland

TBC have been invited to spend ten days in beautiful Rostrevor, Ireland to make music and work with local musicians. Some of the places they will be performing are the local pub, at the nearby Church of Ireland, and at the An Cuan Center, where they will lead worship, give a workshop, and do a concert benefitting refugees. “I just listened to the “Evening Grace” CD. Wonderful,” writes Ron Sommers, their contact and itinerary coordinator in Rostrevor, “I find your worship music evokes deep calm and peace in me.” TBC looks forward to spending time in the home country of Robin and Donna Adams, the rector and wife of Church of the Word in Gainesville where they served for ten years. If you’d like to make a donation towards their trip expense, you can send it to Church of the Word, 7500 Logos Way, Gainesville VA 20155 and mark it “N.Ireland”

Staying Cool During the Dog Days of Summer

Aug 21, 2016   //   by bcp   //   News  //  No Comments

Sweet Memories
In these dog days of summer, it helps to remember that a month ago we were in the beautiful country of Lebanon. Every day we shared music and enjoyed the company of the people of Heart for Lebanon, an amazing non-profit that refuses to turn its back on the plight of the refugees (mainly Syrian) within their borders. Every evening we enjoyed watching the sun set over the Mediterranean. Despite battling laryngitis and illness, we had enough voice and strength for each day, even getting through Thursday where we led in worship and devotions, taught crazy games, fun music (i.e. the Hokey Pokey, the Chicken Dance, etc), and ended the evening with a concert. BTW, that was the BEST concert we’ve ever had—the people truly made us feel like rock stars!

We also enjoyed our treks to Ft Wayne, Indiana to share our published music at the ALCM Region I gathering where Doris got to hear the whole assembly sing through “Breathe A Prayer” and “Psalm 31” while Sharon manned the booth, and to beautiful Cape May NJ where we sang at Tabernacle UMC.

On the Air
We’re thrilled to be guests on the Americana Radio Show, hosted by singer-songwriter Caroline Ferrante and broadcast by the UK’s West Norfolk Radio. The live taping will be done at the O Street Mansion in Washington DC. We’re even more excited that we’ll be joined by our friends, Jim Robeson (who is also our sound engineer and plays bass on our recordings) and Tom Teasley, world percussionist, whose beautiful sounds were on our Evening Grace CD. We tape on August 28 at 1– come on by and be a part of the live audience!

Under Construction

We’re currently updating the Store and Resources sections of this website, so you may see changes from day to day. One of the main changes is our pricing, making it more clear how to order music from single to multiple copies. We hope it will make your search easier!

We’re adding some new products, including even more singable Psalm settings and choral arrangements of BCP compositions. There are more lead sheets under the Resources tab.

Here’s where we’re different from other online music companies: we allow you to preview the ENTIRE piece before purchase rather than just showing you a snippet, to give you more of the experience of being in a brick and mortar store. When we’re done, you will be able to see the music and hear how it sounds. And we also try to accommodate our customer’s requests, whether it’s for something in a different key, the addition or deletion of parts, or change in instrumentation. This year we had requests to write violin and mandolin parts, add harmony to our Alleluia communion setting, and even change a choral work into an instrumental one. BCP Can Do!
